Before the battlefield
Last Updated 13 October 2012, 18:40 IST

Youngsters aspiring for a career in the Army, who had travelled hundreds of kilometres, had to spend the night under trees here on Saturday.

Youth from Bagalkot, Gadag and Haveri have arrived in KGF to take part in the Army recruitment camp scheduled for Sunday. Job-seekers from other districts too have camped in the City.

Amenities

The recruitment process is being conducted at the BEML stadium, which belongs to the Defence Department. No private shops are allowed near the stadium. The youth who had come to take part in the recruitment rally had to even forgo water.

It rained heavily Friday night and a BEML employee said some youth were washing their faces in the rain water accumulated in ditches on the road. Some spent the whole night near a temple, without any other shelter.

It was widely felt that the local officials could have arranged for a water tanker. While the job-seekers have to attend the rally at their own cost, attempts could be have been made to ensure basic facilities to them.

Little interest

This time too there was lukewarm response for the rally from Kolar district.

Colonel R S Chouhan, in charge of recruitment for Bangalore Division, said very few from Kolar took part in the rally. He said there was a huge response for the rally held in Bidar.

Youth from North Karnataka and Hyderabad Karnataka came to the City two days ago to take part in the recruitment rally.
