Dasara Flower Show: BEML lifts overall trophy again

Emerges first at maximum of 25 events

 Continuing with its feat of previous years, Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML), Mysore on Thursday emerged overall winner bagging maximum prizes at various contests organised as part of Dasara Flower Show.

Of the total 27 contests, BEML topped in the 25 ranging from roof garden to Japanese garden among several others, deputy director of horticulture H M Nagaraj announced at the prize distribution ceremony in the city. With this the 10-day annual feature also came to an end.

BEML was conferred Moodagur Subbanna Puttaveeranna Overall Trophy instituted by Vrushabendrappa of Moodagur.

Prominent among other events won by the factory was; Mysore Rolling Shield instituted by district horticulture society for best annual flower arrangements, N P Dharanappa Rolling Shield instituted by Kiran Nursing Home, Mysore for best dalia exhibition and Bhyravva Rolling Cup in memory of B Borappa, instituted by B Mahadev and B Kumar, K G Koppal for best factory garden.

The other winners of shield and cup are; Sarada Vilas Educational Institutions, Late Sosale Mariaiah Siddaiah Rolling Cup instituted by ex-MP S M Siddaiah for best educational institutions garden, office of the assistant director (garden and farms),

Thirumallesh Rolling Shield, Lion K N Gupta, Mysore, for best private farm, SDM Institute for Management Development (SDM-IMD), Mysore, late S M Siddaiah Rolling Cup, instituted by Shashikala Nagaraj for best educational i21nstitutions garden, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, Mysore, D R Nanjaiah Rolling Cup, instituted by retired deputy director of horticulture, Mysore, S Nagaraju for best industries garden and J K RTP Unit, Srinivas Rolling Trophy, instituted by S N Kini.

Deputy director Nagaraj said when compared to previous years, the competitions this time saw an increase of 30 pc contestants at the total of 573. Among them 269 emerged winners bagging different places.

Dean of Horticulture College, Thandavapura, Nanjangud, Dr Venkatesh distributed the prizes. Vice-president of district horticulture society Dr D Prabhamandal, directors S M Kaverappa, Saldanha, Dasappa, Hanumaiah and Vijayakumari, senior assistant director of horticulture M S Raju and assistant director Sumedha were present.
