Boy drowns in well

A 16-year-old boy drowned when he was swimming with his friends in a well in Siddapura police limits, Sunday afternoon.

Azgar, a worker, was the third son of Bibi Jaan, a domestic help and a resident of KM Kutti Colony. He had lost his father three years ago.

Azgar and his three friends - Kaleem, Mubarak and Hakeeb went to an abandoned well in the Colony around 1 pm on Sunday for a swim. The well is located on a land, which was recently bought by a businessman and lacked safety, police said.

The boys dived several times into the well. In one such dive Azgar went deep into the water and did not surface. His friends, who were waiting for him, panicked as he didn’t come up and fled to their houses. They did not disclose the matter even to their parents fearing their wrath, police said.

Bibi Jaan, who started searching her for son Monday morning, went to Mubarak’s house.
After Mubarak narrated the incident, she immediately lodged a complaint with police. Police retrieved the body with the help of local swimmers and fire department staff. The post mortem was conducted at the Victoria Hospital, police added.
