A youth was injured after a security guard at a power house in central Delhi’s Indraprastha Estate opened fire at a gang for alleged trespassing on Tuesday morning. He was later arrested when he went to a hospital in outer Delhi for treatment.

The accused has been identified as Pervez, 25. He told police that he and four others had gone to Indraprastha Power House to steal scrap metal.

In his statement to police, the security guard, Kishan Singh, said he saw five youths trying to steal discarded metal from the power house at 10.15 am.

“Kishan tried to stop the accused, but they started running towards a half-built wall,” a police official said.

Kishan fired a round in the air, but the accused did not stop. The guard then shot at one of the accused.

While three accused ran away, one of them took the injured person along.
He was admitted to a hospital in Kanjhawala with a gunshot injury in his hand. Hospital authorities informed police after they found the matter suspicious.

“Pervez was apprehended by a team of Kanjhawala police station,” the official added.
Kanjhawala police later handed him over to Indraprastha Estate police. A case of house trespass and theft has been lodged with Indraprastha Estate police station.
