Gowda to seek CBI probe into Nice fraud

JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda on Wednesday said he would present himself before the Lokayukta court and submit all facts in connection with alleged irregularities in the Bangalore Mysore Infrastructure Corridor (BMIC) project.

The Lokayukta court hasordered a probe into the alleged involvement of three former chief ministers, including Gowda.

Gowda allegedly granted 4,285 acres of land to the Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises (Nice) for the formation of a township, without consulting the State High Level Clearance Committee.

Gowda, who has been spearheading a campaign against the controversial project for a long time, said he has not yet received the notice from the Lokayukta police.

“I am waiting for a notice to be served so that I can provide all factual information about the alleged fraud committed by the project promoter, Nice… I have nothing to fear,” he said.

However, he skirted a specific question by the media on the allegation against him. “Who is he (the petitioner before the Lokyukta court) to make allegations against me?

I have all the records to prove that nothing illegal has happened during my tenure (as the chief minister). If given a chance I will submit the proof before the court,” he stated.

Stating that the Lokayukta police have their own limitations to conduct the probe, he said he would soon write to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, seeking a CBI probe into the BMIC project. The project promoter has cheated the Karnataka government to the tune of Rs 50,000 crore, he alleged.

He also demanded that the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) should look into the project as the Union government has sanctioned a number of concessions and incentives.
