HC admits writ petition on Ashraya Houses

Last Updated 06 October 2009, 20:16 IST

The petitioners, Govindraju and Venkatesh of North Bangalore taluk have alleged that the allotment for this list is highly arbitrary and discriminatory. They further state that the process of selection of beneficiaries under the scheme is contrary to the eligibility condition as the allottees either hold properties in their name already, or are residents of other areas.

About 499 respondents have been named in the writ petition including the Revenue Secretary, Deputy Commissioner of Bangalore Urban, Executive Officer of Bangalore Urban and MD of Rajiv Gandhi Rural Housing Corporation Limited.

On November 30, 2007, the Veerasagara Gram Panchayat had sent the allotment list for approval to the Zilla Panchayat, which in turn approved and forwarded the list for issue of title deeds to the Executive Officer and Deputy Commissioner of Bangalore Urban on Nov 17.

The DC in January of 2008 issued a letter to the Executive Officer to issue to the title deeds to the allottee.
