<p>All the three seats in Kashmir were won by NC, two of Jammu by the Congress and one in Ladakh by an independent.<br /><br />Former chief minister and NC president Farooq Abdullah won from the Srinagar-Budgam Lok Sabha constituency defeating his nearest rival Moulvi Iftikhar Hussain of the PDP with a margin of over 30,000 votes. <br /><br />Farooq’s sister Khalida Shah, who was contesting as Awami National Conference (ANC) candidate from the same constituency, could obtain only 2,519 votes.<br /><br />The main opposition party, PDP, received a major jolt as it could not win even a single seat from the whole State. Having won 22 seats in assembly polls last year, the PDP even lost the Anantnag- Pulwama seat in its stronghold of south Kashmir to the NC. It came as a big shock for the party. Dr Mehboob Beg of NC was declared elected from there. <br /><br />The separatist-turned-mainstream leader Sajjad Gani Lone, who contested from the Baramulla- Kupwara Lok Sabha constituency, could not create magic and lost. <br /><br />He stood at third position. The seat was won by NC’s Sharief-u-Din Shariq.<br /><br />The Jammu-Poonch and Udhampur-Doda parliamentary constituencies went to the Congress. From Jammu-Poonch, Madan Lal Sharma was declared elected. <br /><br />He defeated his nearest rival Leela Karan Sharma of the BJP. Lal Singh of Congress was declared elected from the Udhampur-Doda constituency.<br /><br />The NC-Congress alliance also won the two assembly seats for which the by-elections were held. The National Conference bagged the Sonawar Assembly constituency in Srinagar, while the Congress won the Bhaderwah seat.</p>
