A man and his accomplice have been arrested for kidnapping his nephew for Rs 10 lakh ransom from north-east Delhi’s Harsh Vihar.

Police rescued the four-year-old boy from Shahdara railway station without any ransom being paid.

According to V V Chaudhary, additional commissioner of police (north-east), Kumarveer, 33, had kidnapped his brother Pappu’s son Sonu on November 11 with the help of his daily wage labour Noorbano and her husband Bhoore Shah. Kumarveer and Bhoore are residents of Loni in Ghaziabad.

As the kidnapper was a family member, Pappu waited till November 16 to inform police. A case of kidnapping was registered, but charge of kidnapping for ransom was added after Kumarveer demanded the sum.

“Our investigation revealed that after kidnapping Sonu, they took him to Barai village in Bareilly,” Chaudhary said.

Kumarveer later told Pappu to come to Chandausi railway station and board a train to Bareilly.

“When Pappu denied to board the train on the direction of police, the accused left the station and went to Barai village,” Chaudhary added.

Police then apprehended Bhoore after tracing his mobile phone’s call data records. Bhoore told police that Kumarveer and Noor left the village for Delhi by a train from Bareilly.
A raiding party rushed to Delhi along with Bhoore and asked Kumarveer to reach Shahdara railway station to collect the ransom money.

“The team succeeded in rescuing the child and arresting Kumarveer when he came to the railway station,” Chaudhary said. Noor, however, managed to escape to Moradabad in a train.
