Man arrested for sexually assaulting his daughters

Close on the heels of the Thalassery incest case, a man was arrested on Tuesday for sexually assaulting his teenaged daughters, at Kaduthuruthy near Kottayam for two years.

Thirty-year-old Binu was arrested on the complaint of his wife Rema and was remanded in judicial custody for 15 days by Vaikom first class magistrate court. It came to light when Rema lodged a petition against him with Vellur police station for beating her up in an inebriated condition.

While narrating her ordeal to the women constables at the station, Rema disclosed that Binu had been sexually exploiting their daughters aged 13 and 11 for the past two years. She told them that Binu started assaulting their elder daughter – a class eight student now- two years ago when she attained puberty.

As Rema shifted the girl to a convent at the nearby Vaikom town, the man turned his attention on the younger one in class six.    Rema, an NREGS worker, tried to stop the assaults of the daughter, but was brutally beaten by the husband.  The constables immediately reported it to the station officer who alerted Childline.  The girls confirmed the assault charge to volunteers from the Childline when they met them, which was adequate for Childline police to arrest Binu, a hotel worker.

Police said Binu, a native of Kannur, came as a 14-year-old to Kaduthuruty in search of some work, where he met Rema and got married to her after a year-long courtship.

Meanwhile, Thalassery Circle Inspector M P Vinod on Tuesday submitted an application before the First Class Magistrate court that it should take the girl’s statement in the case that she had been assaulted by her father, brother and uncle.
