For a greener tomorrow

Education in general and value education in particular hold a prominent place in the society today. With technological advancements taking place at such exponential rates, people have turned a blind eye towards the health of the environment.

Keeping the state of the depleting resources in mind, the students of C B Bhandari Jain College joined hands recently with Inspiration Unlimited (IU) to be volunteers in the ‘IU Newspaper Bag Project’, a worldwide campaign.

A training session for the college students was held before the big day and was conducted by Bharath G C, HR head of IU and chief volunteering head. Schools, colleges and youth activists from organisations like Alive Creations, Being Indian Foundation, We4U, Bakul Foundation and a few others from BJB College, IMS, Utkal University, CSSR kickstarted the campaign simultaneously.

‘IU Newspaper Bag Initiative’ is a project started by Sujit Lalwani, chairman and founder, Inspiration Unlimited. It is one of the important campaigns of ‘One Young World Environment projects’ with an objective to create a greener tomorrow by reducing plastics and educating the masses about the culture of re-using. As was expected, the campaign actually met their target of making one lakh newspaper bags on the same day. Across the different countries where it took place, young minds strived to make a small yet significant change by volunteering.

“My experience as a volunteer of the project was outstanding. I am proud to be a part of such a wonderful campaign and I learnt a great deal through it,” shares Noor Zaiba, a student of C B Bhandari Jain College.

Sabah, another student of the college, expresses her happiness at helping out. “I always wanted to serve the society. This opportunity gave me a chance to serve my country and it gave me strength to undertake any number of projects in the future.”
