10 Vajpayee schools in State next year

To come up in nine districts, with English as the medium of instruction

The Karnataka government will start 10 Atal Behari Vajpayee Model Residential Schools to give a fillip to education of the Scheduled Castes (SCs) students, next year.

As per the order issued by the Department of Social Welfare on November 23, the schools will be started in nine districts in the State.

The schools will be set up in Koppal, Anekal (Bangalore district), Siruguppa (Bellary), Balase village (Karwar), Basavakalyan (Bidar), Gokak, Hukkeri (Belgaum), Harapanahalli (Davangere), Sagar (Shimoga) and Dharwad.

English medium

The medium of instruction in these schools will be English, it stated.
Students who enroll in these schools from sixth standard can continue education till pre-university course. Students can either opt for physics, chemistry, mathematics and biology (PCMB) or physics, chemistry, mathematics and computer science (PCMC) combinations.

Each class will have 80 students and each combination in the Science stream will have 40 students.

The order also stated that recruitment of teaching and non-teaching staff will be on the lines of Navodaya Model Schools set up by the Central government.

Similarly, the Union government has set up Ekalavya Model Residential Schools for tribal students across the country.

There were four such schools in the State. In addition to this, as many as six Ekalavya schools were established in 2010-11.
