Officers educated on RTI Act

Resource person C S Venkatarangan, who enlightened the participants said that knowledge of Right to Information Act is imperative for government officers. The officers should conduct themselves in a responsible manner while furnishing information sought by public under the Act. e outlined the provisions of the Act. B K Lokapalan, another resource person spoke on the role and responsibilities of Public Information Officers.

He elaborated on the role of various institutions in effective implementation of Right to Information Act, the procedure to be followed under Section 4(1)(b) and the scope and authority of appellate authorities. Advocate Nagaraj spoke on the case laws.

Deputy Commissioner N Prabhakar was scheduled to inaugurate the workshop at 10 am. However, the principal of District Training Centre, Pradeep S Rajanal inaugurated the programme as the Deputy Commissioner did not turn up. Even the officers scheduled to participate arrived late.
