“When you have 180 on scoreboard, it's always disappointing to lose. We dropped a number of catches and that might be one of the reasons, but there are other things to be looked at,” Kumble said.

The Bangalorean also justified his decision to give paceman R Vinay Kumar the final over of the match, overlooking Jacques Kallis.

“I thought slower ball will work and that's why I gave the task to Vinay, but it didn't work. Sometimes you have to listen to your guts and make a choice,” Kumble said.  He dismissed the talks of RCB being overconfident going into the match. “We were confident of doing a good job after getting 180 runs on the board and at no stage we were overconfident. Just that the wicket got better and the ball came onto the bat a lot quicker in the second half. The ball was turning towards the latter part of the match, but not too much,” he said.

On the crucial match against Otago Volts on Monday, Kumble said, “There is no additional pressure on us. You have two games and you have to win both to go to the next stage.
“We have to look at Otago Volts’ match against Cobras, and if Otago lose we have to look at the equation and then formulate a strategy accordingly.”
