The Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board (KSEEB) has  planned to take stringent action gainst teachers absenting themselves from valuation work.

According to the new set of regulations, following the amendment to the Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board First Regulations, 1966, exam valuation duty is mandatory for teachers in government aided and unaided schools.

The new regulations specify that valuation is part of the academic activity and hence “it is the duty of every headmaster or assistant master of a government, aided or unaided high school” to tend to valuation work assigned to him by the Board.

In case of serious illness of the headmaster or the assistant master or of their family members demanding their presence, the teachers will have to take prior permission from the Deputy Director of Public Instruction (DDPI) or the Block Education Officer (BEO).

These officials will, in turn, forward the request to the KSEEB director, who will consider sanction of leave from exam valuation duty. The regulations also mandate a medical certificate in case of absence.

In an attempt to streamline the valuation system by ensuring that the teachers deem thee task as their duty, the new regulations place penalties on teachers who are absent from valuation. Such headmasters and assistant masters will face suspension.

The regulations also place the onus on the DDPI and the BEO concerned to ensure discipline among teachers with respect to valuation work. Provisions have been made to take action against officials who are found to have permitted teachers to absent themselves from valuation without valid reason.
