Policemen power past DYSS

Arun Kumar and Vinod Kumar produced a sparkling display to help Karnataka State Police trounce Department of Youth Services and Sports 7-1 in the BDFA Super Division football league at the Bangalore Football Stadium here on Friday.

It was KSP’s first win in two matches that helped them to four points after the Cops were held 1-1 by Postal in their opener. DYSS, who lost 1-2 to Students Union, are yet to open their account.

Pradeep B V put KSP in front in the eighth minute before a long-ranger from Prakash, six minutes later, levelled the scores. KSP soon took control of the match with Venkatesh (20th), Arun (31st, 57th), Vinod (35th, 87th), Karthik M (45+) completing the rout.

For a brief period in the first half, DYSS played on par with their rivals and it seemed an exciting battle on the cards. DYSS even scored the equaliser through midfielder Prakash, who fired home a powerful right-footer from outside the penalty area, to cancel out an early headed goal from Pradeep.

But soon, the young DYSS defence fell apart while their midfield failed to find ways to tackle Arun and Vinod. With enough room upfront and midfield, KSP took total control of the proceedings and went 2-1 ahead. Venkatesh found the target through a slicing header off a right wing corner from Pradeep Kumar.

At the half-hour mark, Cops already had the measure of their opponents with Arun slotting home a neat backpass from Karthik. With Vinod scoring his first of the two goals, KSP effectively killed the match at half-time with a 5-1 lead.

Though, the introduction of Ravi Kiran in the second half for Nazar Hussain tightened DYSS defence, KSP netted two more goals through Arun and Vinod after the break to collect three points.

In ‘A’ Division, Bangalore Mars edged out Electronics and Radar Development Establishment (LRDE) 3-2. P Mani (3rd, 43rd), Gururaj (59th) found the target for Mars while Murthy (52nd) and Kiran (78th) reduced the margin for LRDE.
Saturday’s matches: ‘A’ Division: SAI vs AGORC (1.00 pm). Super Division: RWF vs Students Union (3.00 pm).
