Hindustan Aeronautics Sports Club registered their first win in the Super Division football league after squeezing past a spirited South United Football Club 2-1 at the Bangalore Football Stadium here on Thursday.

HASC, who suffered a 0-2 defeat at the hands of Madras Engineer Group in their opener,  scored through Jagdish Kumar (25th, penalty) and Vinoth Kumar (63rd) to collect three points from two matches. SUFC reduced the margin, three minutes before the final whistle, through Stephen. After Thursday’s loss, SUFC have three points from two ties, having beaten Army Service Corps in their first match.

Aircraftmen were the better side on the day but they failed to capitalise on the half-a-dozen chances that came their way. Jagdish put former champions ahead by converting a spotkick awarded by referee Vijay Kumar when Barun Oraon pulled down Emmanuel inside the box. Jagdish’s first shot was saved by SUFC goalkeeper Harpreet Singh but the midfielder volleyed home the rebound.

SUFC had a chance to equalise but Vignesh, who did well to cut inside the box on the left wing, volleyed straight to HASC custodian Balaji.

In the second half, HASC breathed easy when an unmarked Vinoth slotted home a pass from Nigerian Emmanuel. Though, Stephen pulled one back in the dying minutes, HASC defence held on to their lead.

In the ‘A’ Division, Akbar Ali netted the all-important goal as BUFC edged out Sports Authority of India 1-0. Ali scored the winner in the 23rd minute.
Friday’s matches: ‘A’ Division: Bangalore Kickers vs ISRO (1.00 pm). Super Division: ASC vs Students Union (3.00 pm).
