The Kumaraswamy Layout police have arrested Doraiswamy, 35, who is alleged to have sexually assaulted a four-year-old girl,  who is now recuperating at the Seva Kshetra Hospital. Doraiswamy was arrested following a complaint by the co-ordinators of the Bosco Childline on Wednesday night.

The accused and the victim were subjected to medical examination at the Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) here on Thursday and, the report is expected in three to four days.

While the sequence of the incident is still unclear, Jennifer Y, the Childline co-ordinator, said Doraiswamy was a good friend of Rudresh, the victim’s father who once ran a bakery in Akkipete and a resident of Kumaraswamy Layout.

Following losses in the bakery business, Rudresh’s wife, daughter (the victim) and nine-month-old son, shifted back to their village Harohalli, near Belur, Hassan district. Rudresh stayed back in the City and Doraiswamy used to pay the former’s house rent.

During his recent visit to the village, Rudresh’s daughter insisted on accompanying him to the City. She arrived on December 6 and stayed with her father. On December 8, Doraiswamy sent Rudresh to Hosur.

When the girl was alone at home, Doraiswamy allegedly assaulted her and she sustained bite marks on her body and also fractured her leg. Later, he admitted the hapless child in Seva Kshetra Hospital the same day stating that the child had sustained injuries during a fight. Subsequently, Doraiswamy feld the place.

On his return from Hosur, Rudresh found that his daughter was missing. He enquired with Doraiswamy who lied to him that she was in a friend’s house and he would bring her back the next day. For nearly four days, Doraiswamy kept Rudresh in the dark about his daughter’s condition. The Childline coordinators said that it was only on Thursday that Rudresh learnt that his daughter was admitted in the hospital for the injuries.

Helen, the child psychiatric counsellor from Childline, said the child was alone in the hospital. “When  another patient’s relative spoke to the child, she revealed the details about her abuse. She was unable to speak due to the injuries, following which the Childline was contacted.”

Doctors at the Seva Kshetra were suspicious about the child’s admission and, when Doraiswamy returned to the hospital to check on the child, he was photographed and the police was informed. The coordinators said that certain details are still unclear and, they need to further probe the matter. The girl is expected to be discharged in a couple of days.
