Reddy ready to contest from jail

Former minister G Janardhana Reddy, who is in the Chanchalaguda prison, is getting ready to test the electoral waters for the first time. Reddy, who had entered politics as an MLC, has decided to contest the upcoming elections from Koppal.

His confidante and founder president of BSR Congress B Sreeramulu on Friday announced that Reddy was keen on entering the electoral battlefield on insistence of his supporters, who were “confident” of his victory.

Though Sriramulu did not divulge further information during the press meet, sources close to them said in the event Reddy is not released on bail by the time of the elections, he would even contest from the prison.

They said Sriramulu met Reddy in the jail on Thursday and during their discussion, the latter is said have given his assent to contest the polls. Sriramulu himself will re-contest from Bellary Rural.

Sankalpa Yatra

Demanding early passage of the constitution amendment to provide special status to the Hyderabad Karnataka region, Sriramulu said he would go on a fast on December 27 and 28 at the Chandrashekar Patil Stadium in Gulbarga.

On his ongoing ‘Sankalpa Yatra’ (political rallies), he said that he would tour Chitradurga on December 17, 18, 20 and 21 and continue the rally in Shimoga on December 29 and 30 and cover Bijapur and Bagalkot on January 1, 2 and 3.

The party has also organised a convention of minority in Davangere on January 6.
