A businessman was allegedly carjacked at gunpoint by three miscreants in north-west Delhi’s Ashok Vihar and robbed of Rs 6.5 lakh in cash, police said on Saturday.

Anshul Goel of Maharana Pratap Marg runs a steel utensils manufacturing factory at Wazirpur Industrial Area.

Police said Anshul was on his way to the factory in a Hyundai Santro car when the incident took place around 10 pm on Friday.

“When Anshul reached near Satyawati College, he claimed that three men in their mid-twenties forced him to stop the car and sat inside the vehicle,” a police official said.

In his statement to police, Anshul said one of them forced him to drive the car and threatened of dire consequences if he raised an alarm.

Valuables robbed

He kept on driving while they searched the entire car and got hold of his valuables and a bag containing Rs 6.5 lakh in cash.

They then dumped Anshul at a deserted place and fled with the car and the valuables.

Anshul claimed that apart from cash, they took away his  gold chain, rings, watch and a wallet containing debit and credit cards.

He later sought help from Ashok Vihar police station.

“A case of kidnapping and theft has been lodged over Anshul’s statement and investigation taken up,” the official added.

Investigators managed to recover the car from Keshavpuram, but are yet to identify the robbers.

Local criminals with previous similar modus operandi record are being verified and apart from that Anshul’s relatives and employees are also being called up for interrogation.
