Malaga grab late equaliser

Inter progress to last 8 with 2-0 win in Italian Cup

Malaga grabbed a stoppage-time equaliser through defender Oguchi Onyewu to draw 1-1 at third-tier Eibar in a re-arranged King's Cup last-16 first leg tie on Tuesday.

The La Liga side, who lie fourth in the standings and who have qualified for the last 16 of the Champions League in their maiden campaign, had one eye on Saturday's league visit of Real Madrid and fielded a weakened side.

They fell behind on a heavy, muddy pitch in the Basque country when Txema Anibarro netted in the 73rd minute following a free kick.

Eibar, who knocked out last year's finalists Athletic Bilbao 1-1 on the away goals rule in the last round, came unstuck in time added on when United States international Onyewu made the most of some poor goalkeeping to head in.

Guarin on target

Inter Milan moved into the Italian Cup quarterfinals with a 2-0 victory over second-tier Verona in Italian Cup on Tuesday.  Inter's Italy striker Antonio Cassano and Colombia midfielder Fredy Guarin were on target in the second half for the 2011 cup winners.

AC Milan, Juventus, Catania and AS Roma had already booked their places in the last eight.  The quarterfinal lineup will be completed on Wednesday when Lazio host Siena, Udinese welcome Fiorentina and Napoli entertain Bologna.

Bayern in last 8

Bayern Munich's Franck Ribery was sent off for slapping an opponent just after halftime but that did not stop his side moving into the German Cup quarterfinals with a 2-0 win at Augsburg on Tuesday.

Fellow Champions League competitors Schalke 04 slumped out of the competition in a 2-1 defeat by visiting Mainz 05, while Bundesliga side Fortuna Dusseldorf were stunned 2-0 by third-tier Kickers Offenbach.

Bayern grabbed the lead against the run of play with striker Mario Gomez tapping in from close range.

But things took a turn for the worse at the start of the second half when winger Ribery slapped South Korea's Koo Ja-cheol and received a straight red card.  In an entertaining second half both sides missed several good chances, with Mario Mandzukic, who has failed to score since the return of Gomez in November, twice coming close for Bayern.
Xherdan Shaqiri settled the visitors' nerves five minutes from time, slotting in after good play from Mandzukic and Thomas Mueller.
