Substitute Tong Mong heads home the equaliser in injury time

Substitute Tong Mong’s injury-time goal helped Students Union hold Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE) 2-2 in the BDFA Super Division League at the Bangalore Football Stadium here on Saturday.

In a tie of fluctuating fortunes, it was Students Union who went into the half-time leading 1-0. However, ADE struck twice in the span of seven minutes in the second session and looked set to pocket full points, when Mong headed home the equaliser.

ADE have seven ponts from four matches, while Students Union moved to four from five matches and put an end to their poor run of three successive losses.

In an open game it was ADE’s Stephen who had the first chance in the seventh minute. However, he couldn’t hit the target from inside the area.

Students Union’s Hemantha was denied by rival custodian Mark Mascarenhas in the very next minute.

ADE had a fine chance to go in front in the 11th minute. Stephen’s shot from the right wing was parried away by goalkeeper Thomas and the rebound came just at the right height for Lokesh, who volleyed it over.

Thomas pulled off a brilliant save in the 36th minute as he tipped over a powerful volley by Anto Xavier from the top of D.

Students Union broke the deadlock in the 42nd minute through Herald, who slotted past Mascarenhas after receiving a cross from Hemantha.

ADE struck back in the 56th minute with a lucky break. Stephen headed from close range and defender Suhas in his attempt to clear it only succeeded in heading it into his own net. Referee Leo credited Stephen with the goal.

More misfortune was in store for Students Union as another defender Karthik handled the ball inside the area in the 63rd minute. Anto converted the resultant penalty with ease.

However, there was another twist in the tale as Mong, who came on in the final minute of the match, scored the equaliser off a cross by Hemantha in the third minute of added time.

In the A Division, AGORC and BUFC played out a goalless draw.
