Hiring domestic helps without verifying their antecedents proved costly for Nandini, Miss India 1981. The City police have arrested two men, who made away with valuables from her house in Benson Town, after securing jobs in her house under false identities.

According to police, Pradeep, 24, from Bihar and Ajay Kumar Paswan, 19, from Uttar Pradesh, were hired by Nandini as domestic helps in November.

At the time of joining, the two had identified themselves as Suresh and Ajay.
“The two worked well and I was impressed. But on the 10th day, Ajay sneaked into bedroom when I was sleeping, and Suresh followed him    .

“By the time I could enquire them as to why they were in my room, the two assaulted me, tied my hands and legs, and sealed my mouth with duct tape. They fled with gold ornaments locking me in the house,” said Nandini.

Nandini, who collected the stolen valuables at the office of the City Police Commissioner B G Jyothiprakash Mirji Saturday morning, said she made a mistake by appointing the two without verifying their background.

The police have recovered 650 gram of jewellery, worth Rs 25 lakh, from the two.
The Jayachamarajendra Nagar Police had registered a case of dacoity on November 14 and formed a special team to investigate the case. The two were nabbed from Dadar in Mumbai.
