6 workers killed in separate accidents

Six workers were killed in two accidents in Davangere and Mysore districts on Sunday.

Three persons died on the spot when a goods vehicle they were travelling in, collided head-on with a lorry near Bennehalli village on National Highway 13 in Jagalur taluk on Sunday.

The dead are labourers from Maharashtra, who worked near a toll collection centre. The police are tracing the address and other details of the dead. The car was proceeding from Imangala of Hiriyur taluk towards Amaravathi in Maharasthra. The 20-wheeled lorry from Rajasthan, was carrying transformers to Chitradurga.

Due to the impact of the collision, the goods vehicle came under the lorry. The mangled remains of the vehicles were cleared with the help of cranes.

In Piriyapatna

Three labourers died after they were hit by a speeding car on Saturday night, near Kundanahalli village of Piriyapatna taluk in Mysore district.

The dead are Manjunath (30), Thammegowda (40) and Manju (30).

The three, along with Nagegowda and Thimmegowda, were walking back to Alanahalli village, after loading maize into the lorry, when a speeding car coming from Kushalanagar, hit them.

Thammegowda and Manju died on the spot, while, Manjunath died at a hospital in Mysore. Nagegowda, who has suffered serious injuries, is being treated at the government hospital, while Thimmegowda has been shifted to Mysore hospital for additional treatment.

A case has been registered at the town police station.

The car driver has been arrested and the vehicle has been seized.
