Student gang-raped at gun-point in Bihar

The day when the entire nation was outraged at the news of gangrape victim succumbing to her injuries in Singapore, two youths in Bihar’s Samastipur district seemed to have learnt no lessons from the public outcry over the heinous crime.

They allegedly abducted and gang-raped a 17-year-old Intermediate student at gun-point. The two accused – Sunil Mahto and Virendra Mahto - were arrested by the Samastipur police on Sunday.

The incident took place on Saturday evening when the victim was returning home on a bicycle after attending her coaching classes. The two miscreants riding a bike deliberately made a head-on collision with the bicycle, after which the teenage girl fell down, said the police.

The two marauders allegedly abducted her at gun-point and took her to a nearby field where they took turns to rape her.

As if this was not enough, they took her to a secluded house after the sunset where they again gang-raped her, even as the victim made an unsuccessful attempt to raise an alarm.

Late in the evening, the girl,  in the pretext of attending nature’s call, escaped from the house. She went to her parents and narrated the horrendous tale. The officer-in-charge of Kalyanpur police station Vinay Kumar and his colleague Harimohan Prasad lost no time in recording the statement of the victim, and, on the instruction of the DSP, raided the place the same evening. The accused, who are said to be married, were arrested in the wee hours of Sunday. While Sunil is the father of two children, Virendra’s wife has deserted him.

The residents of Samastipur are shell-shocked over the shameful incident as it was this same district which hogged the international limelight a fortnight back when a girl from this place, Shilpa Singh, represented India in the Miss Universe contest.
