Last Updated 12 January 2013, 19:36 IST

The Cottonpet police have arrested two men on the charge of cheating car sellers and seized nine cars and sports utility vehicles worth Rs 16.5 lakh.

Syed Kamruddin alias Kammar, 57, from Okalipuram and Gangadhar, 33, from Tumkur used to approach car owners as prospective buyers and agree to whatever price the owners quote.

They would pay Rs 20,000 to Rs 30,000 as advance with a promise to pay the balance in a fortnight.
They would take the original documents, get the vehicles registered in their names and drive away with the cars without paying the balance money, police said.

Two held, cattle rescued

The Nandini Layout police arrested two men and seized 15 oxen and four cows which they were allegedly transporting from Koppal to a slaughterhouse in Ramanagar Saturday morning.

Manjunath and Maulana Khan, both from Koppal, were arrested when they were transporting the cattle they had purchased at a fair in Koppal to sell them to a slaughterhouse in Ramanagar.

Tipped off by activists of an animal rights group, the police intercepted their vehicle near the Dr Rajkumar memorial, arrested the two and handed over the cattle to the activists.
