Teaching, a multi-faceted career

In Indian society teacher has been always placed on top rung. Guru-shishya parampara was started in India and treated as a very pious tie. Guru is the — one who opens the eyes and mind of the child to the world of knowledge.

Some of them are Vashisht,  Dronacharya, Sushurut and Parashurama, Adi Shankaracharya, Sri Ramakrishna Paramhamsa, Dr Radhakrishnan and J C Bose. A teacher shows the right path to the students and also lays foundation of the nation.

A career in teaching is a popular choice for graduates, and there are many roles to choose from. Most people associate education careers with teaching at schools or in universities, but there are also jobs working with pre-school children as well as adults of any age, and there are many specialist roles and areas of expertise.Teachers for conventional disciplines at pre-primary, primary/elementary and secondary level education.

- Pre-Primary Teacher: Diploma of Early childhood care and Education (ECCE)/NTT /equivalents).
- Elementary Teacher: Diploma of Elementary Teacher Education (ETE/D Ed/BTC).
- Secondary Teacher: Bachelor of Education (B Ed) after BA/B Com/B Sc.  
- Senior Secondary Teacher: Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) after MA/M Com/ MSc/equivalents.
- Higher Education: Doctor of Philosophy (Ph D), / National Eligibility Test (NET)/State level eligibility Test (SLET) in any discipline for entry level of College/University Teacher/ Lecturer/Asst Professor.

Academic institutes establish tie-ups with industries and research organizations through Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) which enhance faculty research, consultancy and technology exchange programs.
Consultant can be internal and external.The overall impact of a consultant is that clients have access to deeper levels of expertise.Training Sessions and Seminars is an area parallel to teaching. Academic bodies like ISTD (Indian Society of Training & Development) and XLRI (Jamshedpur) offer such certifications and there are many more.

There is no pre-requisite qualification for working in a coaching class. To start a coaching class or to start working in a coaching class you have to adopt teaching and it can do wonders. The scope of research in India is limited.But lot of efforts are on way to encourage our youth to take it up as a career. Funding agencies (AICTE, DAE, TIFR, UGC and others) in India are constantly encouraging the young generation to come forward.

Online teaching method enables to teach students through Skype. You can create educational videos and sell them over the internet. Education Administrator work and collaborate with others, consequently strong interpersonal and communication skills are necessary. Their qualifications such as master’s or doctoral degree and experience in an occupation of your field—an academic counselor or teacher, are requirements for many jobs.

Special Educator a small percentage of special education teachers instruct basic literacy and life skills to students with mental retardation or autism. However, most students in special education have mild to moderate disabilities and teachers modify the general education curriculum to meet the individual needs or their students.

Teachers not only augment a student's intellect but also contribute to the well rounded development of his or her personality. Teaching jobs are regarded as the noblest of all the professions in the world. The quality of education in any educational institute hinges on the availability of good teachers. In our country guru is equated to God. Schools and colleges are always in lookout for good teachers.

Colleges/Institutes for the Course:

- A G Teacher’s College: The college is approved by National Council for Teacher Education and affiliated to Gujarat University specializes in B.Ed Education.

-  Jamia Milia Islamia University:  The University offers certification, diploma, bachelor’s, master’s and advanced doctorate courses in various fields of education. Based in Delhi, New Delhi, it is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

- Andhra University: Andhra University was constituted by the Madras Act of 1926, is also the first to be conceived as a residential and teaching-cum-affiliating University. The university is mainly devoted to post-graduate teaching and research. It offers courses ranging from Certificate Courses to Post Graduate and Professional Courses.

Teaching as a profession ennobles an individual like no other career as education hones the mental capabilities of any person and plays a vital role in human advancement towards an organized society.
Teachers not only groom their students to excel in a particular field, but also sow the seed of responsibility and character in the young minds so that they can develop as better citizens and great ambassadors of the country. Confidence, wisdom, patience, intelligence, friendliness, amicability, communication skills and passion for subject are the chief qualities of a good teacher. Teaching boasts of several area of specialization.

Teaching jobs require a degree of vocational dedication and commitment to people that isn’t required to the same extent in all careers. In return for that dedication, many educators derive a great deal of satisfaction from their teaching jobs and from helping others.
