The taste of Lebanon

Great Flavours
Last Updated 08 February 2013, 14:23 IST

The soft mutton chop almost melts in your mouth, the dazaz al faham is coated with a salubrious masala and is enough for a meal, while the tangy dhaniya chutney is perfect to balance these flavours. Ta’am located on Muniswamy Road, off Queens Road, is an alcove of flavours and textures.

The eatery may look humble but the food served here is excellent. The place has a good crowd and so is the service. What adds to Ta’am is the wide variety of dishes available on the menu. The Lebanese platter, which is cooked with extreme patience and served hot, is the highlight. The laham mandi (mutton placed on top of the rice) sells like hot cakes.

The wait is worth it as what comes to the table is a well-cooked and beautifully flavoured rice with saffron and meat. This is served with a piping hot shorba. This Lebanese counterpart of the biryani is light and delicious.

The divine mutton chops are quite a speciality. Coated with an exotic batter, they are cooked on skewers, served with a tangy salad and the dhaniya chutney.

“The mutton chops are popular and people often order these in bulk for parties or for any occasion.

"There have been times when people visiting the City have come and eaten at our eatery with friends. If they have a flight to catch the next day, they often ask us to pack food and take it home. We have hardly created any publicity for the eatery. Most of the customers come here either through reference or with friends and relatives, who have already eaten here,” informs Irshad Ahmed, the owner of Ta’am.

The feast doesn’t stop there as there are a host of other things that can be sampled. Sheek kebab, bhaji gosht, chicken butter masala, mutton biryani and chicken biryani are some of the dishes.

“We also serve Chinese cuisine and have various dishes like fried rice, chilli chicken and garlic chicken, but our forte is the Lebanese cuisine as it has many takers. The eatery is a year old and our customers’ opinions have worked wonders for us. The response has been good so far,” notes Irshad. The eatery has its own culinary secret, which is the homemade khichdi served with pudina chutney. The ghee rice is cooked with moong dal to perfection and served hot with the chutney.

The ambiance and the mouth-watering food, combined with affordable rates, makes this eatery quite popular with those who want a nice dinner or lunch.
