State highways to be tolled

Users of nine state highways will soon have to pay toll as the government has decided to entrust the maintenance of these roads to private agencies for a period of 10 years on operate, maintain and transfer basis.

Following is the list of highways as per the budget proposals for 2013-14: Kalmala Junction to Sindhanur; Hattigudur to Bidar;  Krishna Bridge near Bijapur to Lokapur; Sankeshwara to Yadawada; Hunagunda to Belgaum; Hiriyur to Bellary;  Bilikere to Belur via Hassan; Yadgir to Andhra Pradesh border; Andhra Pradesh border to Shahapur.

Besides, Chikkanayakanahalli-Tiptur –Hassan and Dharwad – Alnavara State Highway will be developed at a cost of Rs 480 crore on private public partnership  – Viability Gap Funding (toll) basis.

The chief minister has proposed to prepare a feasibility report for the construction of a six-lane tunnel in Shiradi Ghat between Sakaleshpur and Mangalore.
