There was a minor scare on the first day of the Indian team’s preparatory camp at the M Chinnaswamy stadium here on Saturday, when a white clothe used as temporary sight screen caught fire.

Engaged in an intense training session ahead of the Test series against Australia, the Indian players were momentarily distracted when a piece of white clothe near the Members Stand went up in flames. But MS Dhoni and company were so focussed in practice that the fire could not bring their training to a halt.

Later, a release from the Karnataka State Cricket Association attributed the fire to maintenance work taking place inside the stadium. “During the practice session, the white clothe placed as a temporary sight screen caught fire as a consequence of some routine maintenance work at the Members Stand which involved a bit of welding. In less than a couple of minutes, the in-house fire safety equipment was used to bring the situation under control. Practice wasn't affected in any way with a new sight screen deployed immediately afterwards,” said Javagal Srinath, former India pacer and the KSCA secretary, in the release.
