Milk test in DK from Feb 20

1,500 samples will be collected

Milk Ring Test will be conducted on 1,500 milk samples collected from the Dakshina Kannada Milk Union Ltd, bulk milk coolers, chilling centers, milk producers co-operative societies and private milk vendors, in order to find out the presence of Brucellosis disease in the cattle in DK district, from February 20 to 23 between 7 am and 2 pm.

According to a press release from Veterinary Department Deputy Director,  Brucellosis is a contagious disease which not only affects the cattle, but also the human beings. The cattle with Brucellosis are prone to abortions, loss of progeny and low milk yield. 

Milk samples will be collected from 376 sources in the district. One milk sample will be collected for every 100 cows in villages.

As many as 330 samples will be collected from Mangalore taluk on February 23; 300  and 150 samples in Bantwal and Sullia respectively, on February 20; 330 samples in Puttur on February 21 and 390 samples in Belthangady on February 22.


The fourth phase of vaccination drive for cattle against foot and mouth disease in Dakshina Kannada district that commenced on February 15 will go on up to March 21. The department of animal husbandry has already conducted three rounds of vaccination drive against the disease on lines of pulse polio campaign mode and is being carried out across the State to check outbreak of disease among the cattle.
