Trade unions stage protest in C'magalur

In support of the nation wide strike, the members of various trade unions staged a protest rally in Chikmagalur on Wednesday.

The protest call has been given against the government’s “inaction” on price rise and alleged violation of labour laws. The members of TICU formed a human chain at Hanumanthappa Circle.

Bank employees staged a protest in front of State Bank of Mysore main office. TUCI members took out a procession from Bolarameshwara temple and passed through I G road and M G road. The protesters shouted slogans against the UPA government and urged to reduce the price of essential commodities.

Addressing the protesters, district secretary Vijay, Lokesh said that the rise in price of essential commodities have put the commonman into hardship. The rise in the price of fuel has in turn increased the price of essential commodities. The UPA government has failed to check the price rise.

The direct cash transfer policy should be stopped and there is a need for food security in the country. Stringent labour laws should be formulated to initiate action against the owners indulging in exploiting labour class. Social security should be provided to the organised and unorganised labourers.

Disinvestment in public sectors should be stopped and contract system should be cancelled. Equal wages should be provided to all the labourers.

The members of AITUC staged a protest  rally which passed through K M Road, Hanumanthappa Circle. They urged the government to fix minimum wages as Rs 10,000.

The members district bank employees union staged a protest, in front of State Bank of Mysore office. The bank employees urged the government withdraw outsourcing and FDI in banking sector.

There was verbal dual between the police and the protesters, at Hanumanthappa Circle.
