BJP workers protest, demand Union home minister's resignation

Led by BJP national president Rajnath Singh, hundreds of party workers and senior leaders staged a demonstration and courted arrest on Parliament Street on Wednesday, demanding resignation of Union home minister Sushilkumar Shinde for his “saffron terror” remarks against the RSS.

After a round of speeches at Jantar Mantar by senior leaders like Murli Manohar Joshi, Nitin Gadkari, city BJP chief Vijay Goel, Anant Kumar, Arun Jaitley and Venkaiah Naidu, police declared their arrest along with some hundreds of supporters even before they could reach Parliament Street.

Rajnath Singh said there has always been a culture of unity between Hindus and Muslims, but the Congress government has started an issue of saffron terrorism in order to create difference between the communities and divert attention of people from its failures.

“Na Hindu bura hai, na Musalman bura hai. Congress sarkar ka imaan bura hai (Hindus and Muslims are not bad, but the Congress’ government intention is),” said Singh.
“This government has nothing to show except failures of the past years. Now, people are not going to tolerate such reprehensible conduct,” he said.

BJP will raise the issue from the streets to Parliament until Sushilkumar is removed. He should also apologise to people for his remarks, said Singh.

On the history, importance and distinction of the colour saffron, Murli Manohar Joshi said it is unfortunate that the government does not know the history of the colour that is included even in the national flag.  Jaitley said whenever Congress is in crisis, it  tries to mislead people by raising wrong issues.

“People are aware and they will not be fooled by Congress’ antics,” he said. Though several BJP leaders spoke, former Delhi BJP chief Vijender Gupta was not asked to speak to people.
