A 23-year-old youth has been arrested and a juvenile apprehended for killing a 37-year-old man after robbing him in north-west Delhi’s Subhash Place, police said on Tuesday.

Shakurpur J J Colony resident Umed was returning home from Ajmer when he was stabbed on February 22. “Umed was found at Keshavpuram and was declared brought dead at Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital,” said P Karunakaran, deputy commissioner of police (north-west).

Probe led to the arrest of two drug addicts Sajid Ali and a juvenile, who commit crime to buy alcohol and drugs.

Karunakaran said local criminals with previous similar modus operandi were verified after it came to light that Umed was robbed.

“Apart from that, family members and relatives of the victim were called up for interrogation,” Karunakaran added.

After extracting clues from technical surveillance, raids were conducted at Shakurpur J J Colony and a 17-year-old boy was apprehended.

“The juvenile disclosed before juvenile welfare officer that he committed the murder along with Sajid with the intention of robbery,” Karunakaran said.

A stolen mobile phone was recovered from his possession. Later, based on secret information, Sajid was arrested at Shakurpur D Block on Monday.

“They have been involved in several cases in the past,” Karunakaran added.
