Status quo on Ramdev's land in HP

Last Updated 27 February 2013, 20:37 IST

The Himachal Pradesh High Court on Wednesday directed the state government to maintain status quo on yoga guru Ramdev’s land.

The prime chunk of land was taken back by the state due to alleged irregularities in its allotment by the previous BJP regime.

The High Court order comes less than a week after the state government took possession of the land in Solan district as it found that the previous government in 2010 had violated statutory provisions in allotting it to Ramdev. The yoga guru’s Patanjali Yogpeeth trust has constructed an ayurveda hospital-cum-yoga shivir hall on the land.

Hearing the petition of Patanjali Yogpeeth, a division bench restrained the government from demolishing the construction, changing the nature or possession of the land until the case is disposed off. The court directed the government to file a reply within four weeks and has listed April 24 as the date for next hearing.

Ramdev slams Sonia Gandhi

Ramdev on Wednesday accused Congress chief Sonia Gandhi of working against his herbal centre project, and alleged that the lease of his Patanjali Yogpeeth was revoked on her direction.

“Sonia Gandhi is responsible for cancelling the land lease, which was given to me to set up a herbal centre. The state government took action on the direction of Delhi while people of this hill state never wanted to do so,” he said at a public meeting in Solan.
