LS Speaker among six to get doctorate

The Karnataka State Women’s University will confer honorary doctorate on Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar and five other eminent women during its fourth convocation scheduled to be held on March 3. 

Kerala High Court chief justice Manjula Chellur, former minister and social activist Leeladevi R Prasad, oncologist Dr Vijayalaxmi Deshmane, IAS officer Shalini Rajneesh and journalist Sandhya Pai are the other recipients of the honour, Vice Chancellor Meena Chandavarkar told mediapersons here on Thursday. 

As many as 13 women will get doctoral degrees and 38 students will get gold medals, including six from Humanity, four from Commerce, six from Education, 10 from Science and Technology and 12 from Social Science departments. Besides, 399 students have completed postgraduate studies, five diploma and 5,848 undergraduate courses, she added. 

Justice Chellur will deliver the convocation address and Governor H R Bhardwaj will preside over the event to be held at Kandagal Ranga Mandir.
