BU wakes up to hostel problems

Rs 50 lakh fund for development

Foremost among which is the decision to set up Rs 50 lakh fund for Hostel Development.
Deccan Herald had reported on October 6 about the sorry state of the University Visveswaraya College (UVCE) Boys’ hostel and subsequently on October 14 about girls protesting against hostel facilities at the Post-Graduate Girls Hostel within the Jnana Bharathi campus.

Corpus Fund

The members decided that a Corpus Fund will be set up with the help of donations from external agencies such as UGC, AICTE and other individual donors. Besides university syndicate members, the meeting was attended by the Chairman and members of the Hostel Management Council and Chief Wardens of the hostels.

Further, it was decided at the meeting that the management of the hostel mess would be outsourced. Another significant outcome of the meeting was the decision to issue photo identity cards to hostel inmates and action to vacate illegal inmates.

Other decisions

Other decisions taken at the meeting include the decision to hand-over the cleaning of toilets and garbage to external agencies, and the over-all maintenance of the infrastructure will be taken care of the Civil Engineering Department of the University Visveswaraya College of Engineering .
