The efforts of Janata Dal (Secular), billed a party of rural masses, to present itself as a party with an urban outlook by foraying into the virtual world appears to be paying dividends.

For, the party’s recently-launched, interactive website – www.jds.ind.in -- has drawn the attention of a large number of tech-savvy urbanites.

Especially, ‘Ask HDK’ (the party State President H D Kumaraswamy) option on the website wherein people can directly pose questions to Kumaraswamy has been a big hit.

On an average, every ady 300 people are posing  questions to HDK on diverse issues of public importance using this option on the website. And, HDK has been answering all the questions daily.

“We are impressed with the response from people. More than 3,000 people have asked questions ever since the website was launched in the second week of February,” Darshan Devegowda, head of JD(S) IT wing said.

Kumaraswamy has been dedicating one hour every day to reply to the questions, irrespective of whether he is in Bangalore or touring the State. Normally, Kumaraswamy replies to the questions over telephone.

One of the personnel from the IT wing calls him up every day in the evening, jots down his replies and uploads them on the website, Darshan explained.

Interestingly, about 67 per cent of the questions received so far were from people of north Karnataka. “It shows that the party is no longer confined to the old Mysore region. It has been spreading its wings to north Karnataka,” he added.

For instance, one Jagadish Kalale had on March 3 sought to know the party’s programmes for government employees. To this, Kumaraswamy replied: “We will improve the working conditions of the government employees.

We need to improve their morale too. The government employees are unsung heroes in the sense that they do a lot of work but do not get enough credit for some of the excellent work they do.

I will ensure that we have more connect between the citizens and officials – this way, both of us can work together and contribute better. I will have a meeting with the representatives of the employees’ unions and work with them to provide as many facilities as possible.”

Darshan said the website is also connected to Youtube, wherein important activities of the party are uploaded.
