The election authorities have involved themselves in campaigning of a different kind in the city. They have launched a novel initiative to create awareness among people about the importance of voting, ahead of Thursday’s polls to the City Corporation.

As per the instructions of the deputy commissioner (who is also the district electoral officer), six publicity vehicles are doing the rounds between 7 am and 10 pm, reminding the people of their duty to vote. The residents were also warned on the public address system against proxy voting and other malpractices.

They were also called upon not to be influenced by inducements offered by the candidates or the parties.

The vehicles, which were mounted with the public address system, travelled the junctions, roads, lanes and bylanes of the city.

The voters have been asked to call (08392) 272356, if they come across instances of money, liquor, clothes, household articles or electronic goods being distributed to influence voters.

Vehicles purchased for collecting garbage are being utilised for the voter awareness campaign, Deputy Commissioner A A Biswas told Deccan Herald.
