KPCC vice president Prof B K Chandrashekar, on Tuesday, expressed confidence that the Congress party would win more than 60 per cent seats in the ULB elections.

Briefing reporters, he said the BJP had failed to provide basic amenities in towns and cities. The government has not taken steps to bring in reforms in municipal administration in the last five years. People have suffered due to the negligence of the government and hence, they will strongly back the Congress this time, he added.

A recent survey of the status of civic amenities in the ULBs coming under the districts of Bangalore Rural, Chikkaballapur, Kolar, Tumkur, Dakshina Kannada, Mandya and Ramanagar, has revealed that the government has failed to provide clean drinking water, drainage system and housing, he said.

KPCC media committee member C R Narayanappa said the party will win 2,600 to 2,800 wards of the total 4,867 wards for which elections are being held. The Congress candidates have been declared elected unopposed in 12 seats, he said.
