Cho lambasts venue

Last Updated 07 March 2013, 17:35 IST

Asian Cycling Confederation (ACC) president Hee Wok Cho said it was “terrible” that some  countries had to face visa problems for the ongoing Hero Asian Cycling Championships and expressed his disappointment with the venue for the event.

The first part of the championship (March 7-11) is taking place at the Indira Gandhi Stadium Cycling Velodrome, and Cho was upset with its maintenance. “When I came here two years ago, it was an excellent venue. It was world class, but they have not maintained it. It is disappointing. Even the electronic board has not been working. I have conveyed my displeasure to the Cycling Federation of India (CFI)," Cho , who was here for the event, told reporters on  Wednesday.

The championship began on a false note with countries like Iran, Afghanistan, Iraq and Pakistan facing troubles in getting visas to India.

Cho, who is also the UCI vice-president, said a sporting event should not be mixed with politics.
