A property dealer has been arrested in south Delhi’s Kotla Mubarakpur for involvement in the murder of Samajwadi Party member and Ghaziabad bar association president Yashveer Singh last month. Yashveer was shot dead at his Ghaziabad house by around a dozen armed men on February 25.

Krishan Pal Yadav, 49, resident of Raj Nagar in Ghaziabad, was held after the interrogation of four other men — brothers Mithan Yadav, Deepak, Kapil and Manoj — who were arrested by Ghaziabad Police. Their interrogation had revealed that Yashveer was a victim of a conspiracy by their mother Sangeeta and Yadav.

“An information was received on Thursday that Yadav would come at Kotla Mubarakpur. A trap was laid in Pilanji village,” said Chhaya Sharma, deputy commissioner of police (south).

Yadav was apprehended at 7.10 pm, and a country-made pistol was recovered from him.
Yadav told police that he and Sangeeta had instigated the four others to kill Yashveer.
“Yadav and Sangeeta were in a relationship which was objected to by Sangeeta’s sons.

They often threatened Yadav over the issue. Families of Yashveer and Sangeeta were also at loggerheads over several issues. Yadav realised that if he goaded the brothers to take revenge on Yashveer and they were subsequently arrested, he would benefit from it,” Sharma added.

The brothers have confessed that they had harboured a grudge against Yashveer, after he humiliated and physically abused their mother last year. As per their plan, Sangeeta instigated her sons to murder Yashveer. Yadav has a criminal history with cases lodged under Arms Act and Excise Act with Noida Sector police station.

Armed men had barged into Yashveer’s house on February 25 and opened fire, leaving him dead and his brother and a security guard injured.
