Move in social networking site and move out the snail mail and speed posts. The Gujarat unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its elected MLAs have been instructed to open an account on Facebook and learn to operate it to get all the official instructions of the party.

The party unit has taken this decision following complaints from their voters and other party functionaries that the elected members were not responding to their mails and the reply of the elected members too were on the expected lines that they had not received mails. To avoid such confusions the party chief whip has now instructed all the elected members and party functionaries to start accessing their Facebook accounts and they have also been asked to see to it that the social networking site can be accessed through their mobiles. “We have asked our leaders especially those who are not on these social networking sites to get their accounts operated,” BJP chief whip Pankaj Desai said.

Desai said that the leaders have been told that all information about party meetings and decisions would be informed to them through this networking site only.  He said with this none can complain that they were not aware of certain decisions.  He said the younger generation which trusts and communicates through these networking sites will also find it easier to communicate to their leaders. Desai said that though most of them are already registered but they need to acces it more frequently to stay connected with the party and their voters.

The opposition Congress too believes that it is necessary for them to get connected but they also realise the handicap that the party faces. Some of their elected leaders are not tech savvy at all. In fact, some of them do not even have email accounts.
