A  woman was hit with a beer bottle and injured after she slapped one of the eve teasers at a restaurant-cum-bar at Khan Market in Delhi, police said. All the accused, including the son of a serving CBI official, were arrested and sent to jail.

The incident took place on Friday at Boombox Cafe in Khan Market. Identified as Bhawna Chawla, 26, the victim was a resident of Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh.

Accompanied by her husband, she first paid a visit to a relative residing in Lajpat Nagar. Thereafter, along with four relatives, the couple went to Boombox Cafe for dinner. While they were having dinner, one of five youths sitting near them started staring at her and passed obscene remarks.

When she and her husband objected, the accused Rohit Sehgal, Manish, Kuldeep, Paramdeep and Vikas, all aged between 20 and 25 years, started misbehaving which prompted Chawla to slap Rohit.

An enraged Rohit hit her face with a beer bottle, injuring her and breaking the bottle in the process.

The five immediately fled the spot. The victim’s husband called the police control room at around midnight to inform about the incident.

“We rushed the victim to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and after preliminary treatment there, her husband shifted her to a private hospital,” said a police officer. The doctor said the broken glasses caused injuries to her face.

Meanwhile, after scanning the CCTV footage of the hotel, police nabbed all the accused on Friday. Police revealed that Manish is the son of a CBI official and lived with his parents at Vasant Vihar. Rest of the accused were residents of Rani Bagh in west Delhi and belonged to effluent families.

They were arrested and produced before the court which sent them to judicial custody for 14 days. Family members of the youths applied for their bail on Saturday and Monday, but were rejected.
