Former prime minister and JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda on Wednesday called upon the party workers not to indulge in infights while selecting candidates for the upcoming Assembly polls in the State.
Gowda inaugurated a new branch office of the party on Kodigehalli main road of Sahakarnagar in Byatarayanapura Assembly constituency and said a selection committee under the chairmanship of H D Kumaraswamy would take a final call on the candidates to be fielded for the polls.
Party workers should unanimously support the candidates that would be fielded by the party and strive to bring the party back to power in the State, he said.
The former prime minister said the Congress, which is holding power at the Centre and the BJP in the State, have failed to safeguard the interests of the people of Karnataka on the Cauvery issue.
There is pressure from Tamil Nadu chief minister for setting up the Cauvery Management Board. There is a need to launch an united fight by all Kannadigas to safeguard the State’s interest, he said.
As many as 60 party workers from BJP and Congress in the constituency joined the JD(S) on the occasion.
