BBMP drive against illegal flexes, banners

Last Updated 14 March 2013, 20:27 IST

Even before the election fever could grip Bangalore, the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is gearing up to check mushrooming of illegal flexes, banners, posters and hoardings in the City.

The Palike's exercise comes in the wake of the High Court direction to rid the City of such advertising material. In a recently held meeting, BBMP Commissioner Siddaiah directed all the zonal commissioners to carry out extensive clearance drive across Bangalore. He instructed them to rope in Prahari teams to remove the display materials.

Siddaiah directed the zonal commissioners that the engineering department should work in tandem with the advertisement department to remove the illegal advertisements. He told all the Palike officials to alert the control room on finding flexes and posters at public places.

He instructed the BBMP Additional Commissioner (advertisements), Ramachandra Murthy to bring down all the illegal hoardings across the City.

The Palike Commissioner has also directed the zonal officers to fine the violators and lodge FIRs against them if they refuse to pay penalty.
