Two persons, including a chartered accountancy aspirant, committed suicide by hanging in Delhi during the last 24 hours, police said.

In the first case, a 21-year-old girl hanged herself with dupatta at her room in a paying guest accommodation in east Delhi’s Laxmi Nagar.

The incident came to light on Sunday morning, when girls living in other room saw her hanging.

“We received a call and rushed to the spot where she was found hanging from a ceiling fan,” said a police officer.

The victim, Upama Singh from Chapra district in Bihar was pursuing chartered accountancy course. She failed to clear second year examination. Thereafter, she distanced herself from her roommate and other girls at the paying guest.

Her roommate, who was in the neighbouring room on Saturday night, told police that Upama went into depression from February 5 after she failed in examination.

The body has been sent to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital for post-mortem. Police found a suicide note at her room. However, the officers refused to divulge details of the note.
“We are still investigating into the matter,” the officer said.
