Engineer found dead in mysterious circumstances

His wife left him 13 years ago due to his drinking habit

A 53-year-old electrical engineer was found dead in mysterious circumstances in a park at north east Delhi’s Dilshad Garden on Monday morning, police said.

The victim identified as Bharat Bhushan Sharma, brother of D K Sharma, medical superintendent of All India Institute of Medical Sciences, was found dead inside a park at around 6.30 am.

The police said after receiving a call about a body lying in a park, a team was sent to the spot. The body was rushed to Guru Teg Bahadur hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

Sent for post-mortem

His body has been sent to the hospital mortuary for post-mortem and later handed over to family.

Investigators said there were injury marks on his face and a tooth was broken. 

“A case of murder has been registered at Seemapuri police station and we are trying to ascertain the exact cause of death,” said a police officer.

He was probably in an inebriated condition before the incident took place, said the officer.
After questioning his family members, the investigators found that he had left home at 7 pm on Sunday and did not return home.

His wife had deserted him along with a son 13 years ago due to his habitual drinking. Thereafter he was living with his father Madam Lal Sharma and mother Shakuntala.
The police said that he was also sacked from an institute of Haryana government where he used to work as an engineer due to  alcoholism and was unemployed for past few years.

How he died

The investigators said he might have fallen on ground after consuming excess alcohol and died due to injury however possibility of murder can’t be ruled out.

“We are questioning people with whom he was on Sunday night. We have also found a wooden stick beside the body with blood marks on it,” said the officer.

The police said they are looking at all possible angles and questioning people while waiting for autopsy report to find the exact cause of death.

According to police, until a proper investigation is done into the mysterious death, it would not be appropriate to come to any conclusion about how he died.
