A public interest litigation will be filed in the Lokayukta Court to probe into the implementation of Vajpayee housing scheme at Uppalli layout, said JD(S) leader S L Bhoje Gowda.

Speaking to media persons on Monday, he accused the higher education minister and bureaucrats of indulging in money making business while sanctioning sites to the beneficiaries under the scheme. The to be built housing layout in Uppalli, will be developed at a cost of Rs 160.89 crore and has received approval from the government, for the same. As many as 7,954 persons have submitted applications requesting for the site and a sum of Rs 38,53,300 has been collected as the registration fee. As per the agreement, 40 per cent of the housing sites should be distributed to farmers and 60 per cent of the sites to others.
Though the actual total cost of the housing site is Rs 141 crore, why was the tender called for Rs 161 crore, he questioned.

He also suspected the kickbacks received by some of the influential persons in the district, so as to give the work tender to Nagarjuna Construction Company.

Estimating the expenditure for developing the sites, he said going by the price listed by Bangalore Development Authority, the total expenditure for the project in Uppalli would be Rs 80 crore.
