Even though Assembly elections in the capital is still few months away, the principal opposition BJP has already started making poll promises.

Wooing the voters in the rural pockets of the city, state BJP president Vijay Goel on Sunday said, if voted to power, the party would reduce power and water bills by 30 per cent.

“We will reduce electricity and water bills by 30 per cent within a month of coming to power,” said Goel while addressing the ‘Gramin Aakrosh Rally’, organised by the party in Bawana.

Announcing sops for the rural areas of the city, Goel said BJP government will ensure an overall development of Delhi villages within a span of six months.

“We will revive ‘chakbandi’ and will increase numbers of ‘lal dora’ in the villages. The land acquisition rule would be amended so that the owners of land in village areas could get maximum price for their land. Slum dwellers and poor people will be provided free LPG connection along with two cylinders,” said Goel.

Also present at the rally was BJP national president Rajnath Singh. Blaming the Congress for the recent economic downturn, the Singh said that though the party has ruled the country for more than 55 years, nearly two-third population is still living below poverty line.

“The UPA government has no idea how to run a good government, which has led to spiraling inflation, price rise and rampant corruption,” said Singh. The prices of essential commodities are rising while both the Union and the state governments are not concerned with the day to day problems faced by the common man,” he added.
