A 52-year-old head constable posted with the Delhi police control room department committed suicide by hanging himself on an iron grille at a park near New Delhi’s Tilak Marg on Wednesday morning, police said.

Unni Krishanan, who was residing at police colony in north Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar, was found hanging on the iron grille at around 6:30 am.

“We received a call from a passerby who informed that a police officer had hanged himself. We rushed to the spot where he was hanging within the park’s boundary,” said deputy commissioner of police (New Delhi) S B S Tyagi.

“The body was rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead,” added Tyagi.

During investigation, police found that his family members left him 15 days ago and went to his native place in Kerala. Since then he had been mentally unstable and depressed.

His colleagues told police that he was under depression due to some family issues.

On being informed about victim’s death, his family told the police that they would not be able to come here to receive his body and asked to hand it over to a relative, who lives
in Lodhi Colony, for the last rites.

After the post-mortem on Thursday, the relative received his body and performed his last rites, said the police officer.
